Benchmark Methodology

Latency Measurement

We measure API response time by sending requests to common endpoints (live scores, fixtures, standings) from multiple geographic regions. Latency is recorded as the median response time across 1,000+ requests per provider per day.

Uptime Monitoring

We continuously poll each provider's status endpoint every 60 seconds. Uptime is calculated as the percentage of successful responses over a 30-day rolling window. Scheduled maintenance windows announced at least 24 hours in advance are excluded.

Error Rate Tracking

We track HTTP 4xx and 5xx error responses, timeouts, and malformed JSON payloads. The error rate is the percentage of failed responses out of total requests over the 30-day monitoring period.

Benchmark Score Calculation

The benchmark score is a weighted combination of latency (40%), uptime (35%), and error rate (25%). Scores are normalized to a 0–10 scale and updated daily. The overall score blends the benchmark score with our editorial score (which evaluates documentation, features, and developer experience).

Test Conditions & Limitations

  • Benchmarks are conducted from US-East and EU-West regions. Latency may vary for users in other geographic locations.
  • We test against each provider's documented public endpoints. Enterprise plans with dedicated infrastructure may offer different performance characteristics.
  • Some providers enforce rate limits that may affect test frequency. We respect documented rate limits and adjust our polling accordingly.
  • Benchmark data is updated daily, but historical trends may not reflect temporary outages or degraded performance windows shorter than our polling interval.
